1. in + Dativ in, on, at

a.	I eat in this restaurant.	Ich esse in diesem Restaurant.
b.	He works in the consulate.	Er arbeitet im Konsulat.
c.	We live on ('in') this street.	Wir wohnen in dieser Strasse.
d.	He's in the cathedral just now.	Er ist gerade im Dom.
e.	The bank is on ('in the') Schubertstrasse.	Die Bank ist in der Schubertstrasse.
f.	Are Mr. and Mrs. Allen at ('in') the movies?	Sind Herr und Frau Allen im Kino?
g.	He lives in the Europa Hotel.	Er wohnt im Hotel Europa.

2. in + Akkusativ into, to

a.	We're going to the movies.	Wir gehen ins Kino.
b.	Are you driving down town today?	Fahren Sie heute in die Stadt?
c.	What theater are you going to?	In welches Theater gehen Sie?
d.	Shall we go to the park?	Wollen wir in den Park gehen?
e.	Mr. Köhler is going into the hotel.	Herr Köhler geht ins Hotel.
f.	I'd like to go to the café.	Ich möchte gern ins Café gehen.

3. zu + Dativ to

a.	I'd like to go to the bank.	Ich möchte zur Bank gehen.
b.	What bank are you going to?	Zu welcher Bank gehen Sie?
c.	Shall we take a walk to the cathedral?	Wollen wir einen Spaziergang zum Dom machen?
d.	We can drive to the 'Ratskeller'.	Wir können zum Ratskeller fahren.
e.	What's the best way to get to the airport?	Wie kommt man am besten zum Flughafen?
f.	She's just driving to the embassy.	Sie fährt gerade zur Botschaft.

4. neben + Dativ next to, beside

a.	Is the 'Ratskeller' next to the town hall?	Ist der Ratskeller neben dem Rathaus?
b.	The bank is next to the hotel.	Die Bank ist neben dem Hotel.
c.	The stop is next to the consulate.	Die Haltestelle ist neben dem Konsulat.
d.	Is the parking lot next to the bank?	Ist der Parkplatz neben der Bank?
e.	They live next (door) to us.	Sie wohnen neben uns.
f.	Which restaurant is next to the university?	Welches Restaurant ist neben der Universität?

5. an + Dativ at, on

a.	The town hall is at the market place.	Das Rathaus ist am Markt.
b.	The streetcar stop is over there at the corner.	Die Strassenbahnhaltestelle ist da drüben an der Ecke.
c.	This bus stops at the market place.	Dieser Autobus hält am Markt.
d.	Is the 'Ratskeller' at the market place too?	Ist der Ratskeller auch am Markt?

6. von + Dativ of, from

a.	The museum is not far from the town hall.	Das Museum ist nicht weit vom Rathaus.
b.	The museum is in the vicinity of the university.	Das Museum ist in der Nähe von der Universität.
c.	To the right of the cathedral is the embassy.	Rechts vom Dom ist die Botschaft.
d.	Across from this hotel is the parking lot.	Gegenüber von diesem Hotel ist der Parkplatz.
e.	To the left of the bank is the municipal theater.	Links von der Bank ist das Stadttheater.
f.	The bus stops across from the café.	Der Omnibus hält gegenüber vom Café.

7. auf + Dativ on, in

a.	I can show it to you on the map of the city.	Ich kann es Ihnen auf dem Stadtplan zeigen.
b.	The streetcar stops on the other side of the street.	Die Strassenbahn hält auf der anderen Seite der Strasse.
c.	I can't find the university on the map of the city.	Ich kann die Universität auf dem Stadtplan nicht finden.
d.	The car is in ('on') the parking lot.	Das Auto ist auf dem Parkplatz.
e.	The policeman is on the other side of the street.	Der Polizist ist auf der anderen Seite der Strasse.

8. fahren mit + Dativ to go on, in, by (a conveyance)

a.	You can go on the bus.	Sie können mit dem Autobus fahren.
b.	Are you going by streetcar or in your car?	Fahren Sie mit der Strassenbahn oder mit dem Auto?
c.	Which bus is he going on?	Mit welchem Autobus fährt er?
d.	I want to go by taxi.	Ich will mit der Taxe fahren.
e.	He's going in his car today.	Er fährt heute mit dem Wagen.

9. durch + Akkusativ through

a.	The bus goes through the park.	Der Omnibus fährt durch den Park.
b.	We're going through the park now.	Wir gehen jetzt durch den Park.
c.	Drive through 'Ludwigstrasse'.	Fahren Sie durch die Ludwigstrasse.
d.	You can walk through the park.	Sie können durch den Park gehen.
e.	Shall we drive through town?	Wollen wir durch die Stadt fahren?

10. sollen to be supposed to

a.	The beer is supposed to be very good here.	Das Bier soll hier sehr gut sein.
b.	The palace is supposed to be very famous.	Das Schloss soll sehr berühmt sein.
c.	The stop is supposed to be not far from here.	Die Haltestelle soll nicht weit von hier sein.
d.	Isn't the station supposed to be here in the vicinity?	Soll der Bahnhof nicht hier in der Nähe sein?
e.	The hotel is supposed to be very good.	Das Hotel soll sehr gut sein.
f.	They're supposed to be very nice.	Sie sollen sehr nett sein.

11. wir wollen + Infinitiv shall we

12. mit + Dativ with, to

a.	You can talk to the policeman.	Sie können mit dem Polizisten sprechen.
b.	He'd like to go to the theater with us.	Er möchte mit uns ins Theater gehen.
c.	I'm going down town with Mr. Köhler today.	Ich gehe heute mit Herrn Köhler in die Stadt.
d.	He's just talking to the officer.	Er spricht gerade mit dem Wachtmeister.
e.	I'm going to the movies with this lady today.	Ich gehe mit dieser Dame heute ins Kino.
f.	Which waiter is he (just) talking to?	Mit welchem Ober spricht er gerade?

13. suchen to look for

a.	She's just looking for the suitcase.	Sie sucht gerade den Koffer.
b.	What are you looking for?	Was suchen Sie?
c.	He's looking for the passport.	Er sucht den Pass.
d.	Are you looking for the parking lot?	Suchen Sie den Parkplatz?
e.	I'm looking for Miss Schneider's address.	Ich suche die Adresse von Fräulein Schneider.

14. fragen to ask

a.	Let's ask the doorman. ('Why don't we ask...?')	Wir wollen den Portier fragen.
b.	Ask the policeman please.	Fragen Sie bitte den Polizisten.
c.	He's asking the waiter.	Er fragt den Ober.
d.	I'm going to ask the (police) officer.	Ich frage den Wachtmeister.
e.	Can't you ask Mrs. Kunze?	Können Sie nicht Frau Kunze fragen?

15. trinken to drink, to have (to drink)

a.	What would you like to drink?	Was möchten Sie trinken?
b.	He's drinking a glass of beer.	Er trinkt ein Glas Bier.
c.	Are you having coffee or tea?	Trinken Sie Kaffee oder Tee?
d.	I like ('to drink') wine.	Ich trinke gern Wein.
e.	Would you like some water to drink?	Möchten Sie etwas Wasser trinken?

16. parken to park

a.	You can park over there.	Sie können dort drüben parken.
b.	I'll park in the parking lot on 'Schubertstrasse'.	Ich parke auf dem Parkplatz in der Schubertstrasse.
c.	He parks on the other side of the street.	Er parkt auf der anderen Seite der Strasse.
d.	I very often park in this parking lot.	Ich parke sehr oft auf diesem Parkplatz.
e.	Can one park here on the street?	Kann man hier auf der Strasse parken?

17. halten to stop

a.	Is this where the bus stops? ('Does the bus stop here?')	Hält der Omnibus hier?
b.	Where does the streetcar stop?	Wo hält die Strassenbahn?
c.	I'll stop across from the hotel.	Ich halte gegenüber vom Hotel.
d.	Stop at the embassy please.	Halten Sie bitte bei der Botschaft.
